Verdict

Another competitive handicap where the claims of the lightly raced trio of Nollaig Shona, Serious Matters and Scottish Glen merit serious consideration but GREEN VELVET has sound credentials and could be the one. Peter Makin's mare's two career wins came in the space of five days at this track in March 2009 and she rarely runs a bad race here with a further five placed efforts to her name from a total of just nine starts. She's a couple of pounds higher than for her last two outings but should be hard to keep out of the frame. Serious Matters was stepped up to six furlongs for his handicap bow at Wolverhampton but could find only the one pace in the closing stages; he's open to improvement and makes the short-list. Nollaig Shona looks as though she'll benefit from a return to racing over the minimum but Lush Lashes' half-brother, Scottish Glen, stayed on well over six furlongs at Windsor so it remains to be seen how he copes with this sharper test but there are no such concerns for Green Velvet.
