Verdict

There are races to be won over fences with De Valira judged on his debut second at Killarney. Forjoetheplumber and White Star Line will be interesting once they've gained a little experience and look better long-term prospects than Blazing Beacon. But the one to beat is probably RUSSIAN WAR, who won six of his 13 starts over hurdles and a couple of bumpers. He had the stuffing knocked out of him by a last-fence blunder at Newton Abbot on his chasing bow having travelled well to that point and compensation awaits here with a clear round.
