In depth
Verdict
Widemouth Bay made an impressive start to his career when coasting home by nine lengths in a bumper at Wincanton on good ground, with Radcliffe over 12 lengths in arrears. Given plenty of time to recover from that outing, he comes here fresh and is the selection to follow up. Radcliffe has the benefit of an extra outing, having improved on that debut by taking a Fakenham bumper last month on good to soft. He should again show up well here, though he may find both the selection and River Pirate too good. The latter finished a two and a quarter length third over course and distance in November and should come on plenty for that run. With his yard in form and a six week break to keep him fresh, he is likely to be involved at the finish. The remainder are difficult to assess as they are all making their debuts, though Shaadiva and Victoria Stone come from a yard that often does well in bumpers and it would be no surprise to see Towmender shape with promise. Perhaps the market will be our best guide to their chances.
