Verdict

Calett Mad did very well over hurdles in France and made a bright start for new connections when beating older horses at Newcastle. He's only four and will have come on a bundle for that run though this is much tougher. Gentleman Jon, who may have been a bit fortunate to land a Listed handicap at Wincanton, couldn't handle softer conditions at Newbury and needs the ground to dry out. Milan Bound was having only his second start over fences when landing a novice chase at Uttoxeter in July and has since run over hurdles. SUGAR BARON (NAP), a debut winner over fences on fast ground in May, reappeared at Sandown last month and was in touch when falling at the second last. The form has worked out well and these fences are much less demanding so he can get back to winning ways. Fox Appeal has mainly raced at a higher level than this and is 16lb lower than his hurdles rating so he's one for the shortlist.
