Verdict
Plenty can be given a squeak in this Novices' hurdle and from a shortlist of Phoudamour, Flaco, Quentin Collonges and BRIERY STAR, it is the last-named who is selected. The selection ran with plenty of promise on her recent hurdling debut, when not disgraced behind Our Hero. That was a good effort considering she hit a couple of hurdles, and assuming that she has learnt from the run then she should run well receiving weight all round. Phoudamor has a penalty for his recent Hereford success, where he rewarded favourite backers with a comfortable three length success. A penalty makes life tougher but it would be unwise to rule out further improvement. Flaco is a newcomer who warrants respect. The son of Accordion has fetched tidy sums when passing through the ring, which is not wholly surprising as a full brother to Character Building. Quentin Collonges has shown ability in two starts in this country, including a debut effort behind Bakbenscher. His subsequent defeat to Neil Harvey looks solid and it would be a surprise were he not to feature prominently here. Nothing else really catches the eye and so it is Briery Star who is selected, albeit with not much confidence.
