In depth

Verdict

Pagano got no further than the first flight at Towcester last month and Alan King's gelding looks best watched after that effort today and preference is for SPEED UP, who gets the vote with Viscount Rossini rated the best of the rest. The selection is much better on fast ground and showed improved form back on a more suitable surface at Musselburgh last time. Racing off a 3lb lower mark today, Ferdy Murphy's gelding can make the most of the weight that he receives from most of his rivals and he is taken to resume winning ways. Gloucester has struggled since winning a maiden hurdle at Fakenham in February but he has raced twice at Cheltenham and at Aintree in those outings and this is more realistic. Alan McCabe's Summer Lodge has not raced over hurdles for some time and needs to improve on his most recent start over timber but he does come here fit and in-form from the flat. Indian Pipe Dream has been highly tried of late and has to be considered but a bigger threat is likely to come from recent Newcastle winner Viscount Rossini. A 6lb rise for that success may just stop him from following up though and a better bet looks to be Speed Up.
