        Verdict

        Ashes has been a model of consistency and is taken to account for Angelofthenorth and Brave Bear. With fitness at a premium at this time of the year, it can pay to take a chance that Ashes will finally return to winning ways now that she has her best trip of five furlongs. She has been campaigned over six throughout the winter, and has been restrained to get the trip on each of her last three outings, reaching the frame but not able to muster enough power in the finish. Granted, she did not get the best of runs at Wolverhampton at the start of the month but she probably would not have beaten Sweetest Revenge anyway. Today though she has conditions very much in her favour, with both the trip and going to suit, and so there will be no excuses. On form her main rival appears to be Brave Bear who likes to crack out and lead. He has conditions to suit as well, but a 186-day absence will surely count against Tim Easterby's charge, and he is best watched on this occasion at least. Angelofthenorth was placed twice at the end of the last Turf season but is another that will perhaps need the run, and so we return to Ashes as the answer.
