In depth

Verdict

The day’s feature sees the reappearance of smart hurdler Vauban, who routed useful middle-distance handicappers at Royal Ascot. His demolition job that day suggested he could prove very talented on the level. Colin Keane is booked and he'll be strongly fancied again despite the drop in trip. However, VALIANT KING (NAP) also put up an excellent performance at the Royal meeting when just inched out by Desert Hero in the King George V Stakes. The latter franked the form when landing the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood last week and Joseph O'Brien's colt can maintain his upward curve. Peking Opera and Gooloogong also give Ballydoyle a decent hand and Lafayette is usually thereabouts in this grade.
