In depth

Verdict

The four-year-old A Plus Tard looks a smart prospect after just failing to overhaul the useful Dr Mikey on his chasing debut at Gowran. A Listed winner on heavy ground over hurdles in France, some rain would aid his cause but he looks certain to make a bold bid in what should be an informative contest. Kagney, a winning bumper and hurdler, was caught in the shadows of the post on his chasing bow over 2m4f at Kilbeggan but only got as far as the first at Navan next time. DUC DES GENIEVRES (NAP), who won a hurdle in his only start in France, began his career with Willie Mullins in two Grade 1 races and was placed behind Next Destination and Samcro. He has a tremendous pedigree for jumping fences and entries at the highest level over Christmas suggest he's held in high regard. Carter McKay was trained by Mullins last season and was a close third in a Leopardstown Grade 1 in February. He's one to keep an eye on while Impact Factor was there with every chance when falling at the last at Thurles. Ex Patriot has some decent form over hurdles as does Ministerforsport, who was well supported on his chasing bow at Punchestown but got no further than the first.
