      Verdict

      Martell Cognac Grand National hope, Gunner Welburn - who was third in this year's Welsh National and won the 2001 Martell Fox Hunters' Chase - looks to have a good opportunity to warm up for the great race with a win here and gets the vote. Good things were expected of Rugged River this season but he has disappointed since his Newton Abbot win in November. Lord Of The River was a very useful novice chaser in 1999 but has been lightly raced since. His Sandown run in January should have blown away the cobwebs and it will be interesting to see how much ability he has retained. Moral Support has lost his way since running up a hat-trick of wins in 2000 (from a highest rating of 127, and he now races off 116). Red Guard has been raised five pounds for his Huntingdon win. He's fairly consistent, need to be produced late and is not without a chance. Mister Bigtime has yet to win a race despite some promising efforts, while the eleven-year-old Zaggy Lane is at the top end ratings-wise of what he has achieved.
