    In depth

    Verdict

Conquest has quite a reputation and can start to live up to it here, with Make Me An Offer and newcomers Colditz and Al Khaleej just a couple to note. Willie Haggas thinks the world of Conquest but must have groaned when he saw the size and potential quality of the opposition in the opening event on the card. The fact that the going has now changed will not make matters any easier, but as Conquest has had a run he is selected to go one better than when just touched off at Newmarket on ground as soft, if not softer than today's. He holds an entry in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes at The Curragh and should go some way to justifying that here. Make Me An Offer shaped as though the step up in trip would suit when third on his debut here last month, and he too should have learnt from the exercise. Mick Channon won this 12 months ago with Championship Point and saddles both Proper and Colditz. The latter has been the subject of good reports on the Lambourn gallops, and the son of Noverre, a half-brother to Cape Trafalgar, has to be respected. Al Khaleej is related to the useful Hurricane Floyd and holds an entry in the Redcar Two-Year-Old Trophy so is presumably well thought of and is yet another to note, but with a run under his belt, it is Conquest that gets the vote.
