In depth

Verdict

The in-form Kerstino Two has gone up another 13lbs for his latest success at Taunton and, while having to be respected, it may be that the handicapper now has the measure of Charlie Longsdon's gelding and a safer bet looks to be Lou du Moulin Mas, who gets the vote ahead of Mandingo Chief. The last mentioned has been in good form of late but may now be in the grip of the handicapper and has yet to prove his effectiveness over this trip. Balladeer is capable on his day as he showed when winning at Kempton last time but he is not always the most reliable of performers and is probably best watched. Desailly lacks a recent run and is hard to recommend especially as he seems held by the selection on a line through Harris Bay. Henrietta Knight's gelding was given the coolest of rides when just getting the better of Lou du Moulin Mas at Ascot last week. The Paul Nicholls-trained gelding had looked the likely winner for most of the way that day and is set to go up 3lbs in future handicaps so is taken to make the most of today's favorable mark.
