Verdict

In an ordinary maiden, it may be worth chancing a small investment with SECOND Encore, who edges preference ahead of Sky Falcon and Crown Ridge. The last named ran promisingly on debut before putting in a solid, if unspectacular effort at Ayr 10 days ago. His trainer, Mick Channon, likes to get plenty of experience into his younger horses and this fellow easily looks capable of paying his way before too long. He does have the profile of one to bear in mind for a nursery later in the season. Sky Falcon is an interesting newcomer that represents a powerful yard. Mark Johnston introduces the son of Smarty Jones at a realistic level and support from the betting ring would be a good indication the paddock watchers are impressed with his demeanour. Tilliemint is another worth a mention, as she has experience of the trip but more crucially has the added value of a fillies allowance. The fitting of first-time blinkers does temper the confidence somewhat, though. Support for Sonshoni Wind or Dreamweaving would also suggest improved efforts may be in the offering. However, Second Encore was really motoring near the finish on debut at Newbury 10 days ago and, improvement anticipated; the daughter of Royal Applause can provide a good value option in a wide open maiden.
