In depth
Verdict
A small but select field for the Earl Of Sefton which could fall to Kalaman, with Gateman and Hurricane Alan set to take a hand in the finish. Sir Michael Stoute's colt contested some top class events last season including the St James's Palace Stakes where he finished a gallant second to Zafeen. He was then made favourite for the Juddmonte International at York but could never land a blow and finished well behind Falbrav. There is nothing of that calibre in today's contest, and over this shorter trip we expect Kalaman to regain winning ways. Hurricane Alan is racing beyond eight furlongs for the first time, but was staying on well after a slow start when fifth in the Celebration Mile at Goodwood. Gateman has a fitness edge on the selection having finished second behind Sublimity in the Doncaster Mile, however he will need to improve on that performance if he is to beat the selection. Of the others Wake hails from an in form yard and has plenty of potential, but will need to improve to land this event. So in conclusion Kalaman should have too much class for his rivals and he is a confident choice.
