In depth

Verdict

Another tough one to sort out, but Notnowcato is selected to get the better of Salamanca, Unshakeable and Impeller. Many in with chances here but Notnowcato caught the eye behind Focus Group over the course and distance last month and is taken to gain his second win here. Sir Michael Stoute's three-year-old has not had a great deal of racing since scoring here in April, and was having only his second outing since May when chasing home Henry Cecil's winner over the track and trip. That was a similar race to this, and as the fifth horse home, Pinpoint, was successful at Salisbury last week, the form appears sound. He may be a step ahead of the handicapper still, and the fact that three-year-olds have a good record in this event adds to his chances. Salamanca gained her first victory since landing a big sales race last year when winning off a mark of 94 here last time. She might just have a bit more to do now, while Unshakeable has his first outing since winning at Goodwood in July, but is worth noting for a late autumn campaign. Impeller was a creditable eighth in the Cambridgeshire and might appreciate this slight drop back in trip so is another to note, but Notnowcato has more to offer and can make up for lost time.
