In depth

Verdict

Once again Aidan O'Brien is likely to provide the favourite, this time in the shape of the unbeaten Sahara Desert. A winner at The Curragh on his debut, the son of Green Desert has to give weight away all round but should still go close. Western Verse looked smart when winning on his debut at York last May but then disappointed at Royal Ascot and has been given plenty of time to come right again. With his stable off the mark for the season now, he looks capable of beating the Irish raider. Northern Desert, a winner of his first start this term and the consistent Tumbleweed Charm add further spice to a fascinating closing event.
