In depth
Verdict
This is normally a competitive event and this year looks no different. Last years winning stable rely on Gemi Bed, while others to consider include Man The Gate, Route Barree and David Cosgrove's In Spirit, who gets a rather tentative vote. Although he has yet to tackle this far on the flat, he has looked on the last couple of occasions as though it would bring about some improvement and with the useful amateur Harry Fowler doing the steering, looks one of the more likely ones. Route Barree bounced back to form last time when coming from a fair way back to be nearest at the finish over 11-furlongs at Brighton. This extra furlong will see him in a better light and as he can run off an 8lbs lower mark than when last seen in a handicap, he is of obvious interest. Although Man The Gate isn't the easiest of rides, he does have one of the better amateurs aboard and if on a going day should run well in this company, while Gemi Bed, who comes into this in good form, will make a bold bid to follow up for last years successful yard, off only a 2lbs higher mark than when beating Lost Spirit at Folkestone back in March.
