Ibn Khaldun is selected ahead of Blues Minor and Educated Risk. The Dubai Destination colt is the epitomy of the often used term of "well bred" as his dam, Gossamer won the Irish 1,000 Guineas before running a fair fifth in the Breeders Cup Fillies and Mares' Turf event. Success from such blue blood is never guaranteed but with a battalion of entries in the big juvenile races and the Derby, plenty is expected. Blues Minor has ran creditably on two starts thus far. A recent run at Salisbury suggests that he isn't far away from shedding his maiden tag. Educated Risk does not have any fancy entries but the gelding is related to plenty of juvenile winners including Dazzle. Memphis City has been easy to back on two starts and may still need more time. Upton Grey is dropped back in trip after a moderate run at Goodwood over further. First Trim put up a fair debut on good-to-soft and the fact that Brian Meehan has been slow to return him to the track suggests that plenty enough is thought of him to take time. Maimoona is related to staying types whilst Aberavon will rate as the benchmark for the handicapper. Ibn Khaldun has a lot to live up to but in the absence of market information, he is put up as the percentage pick.
