In depth

Verdict

Some familiar old faces here in a very trappy finale. Chances are given to Poker Player, African Sahara, Habshan, Kindlelight Debut and Boundless Prospect, but Everest is just preferred. Brian Ellison's charge is on a fair mark and did not really have the race run to suit him when third to the well handicapped Musicanna at Newbury last time. At his best when cutting late through a big field, today's conditions should be right up his street and he is taken to score his first success of the season. Kindlelight Debut is on a hat trick after two wins at Wolverhampton but is effecrive on turf and has to be respected, while Boundless Prospect put a spell in the doldrums behind him wehen winning here a fortnight ago and Gay Kelleway's gelding remains well treated on his best form. Habshan had African Sahara half a length away when winning at Doncaster last time, and there should not be too much between them again this time, while Poker Player has more scope than most of these rivals and a reproduction of his close third to La Bella Grande here last week would give him every chance. However, when things drop right Everest has a touch of class about him and he gets a tentative vote in this finale.
