Verdict
Barolo may provide the answer to the day's Showcase event with Azur, Marble Arch and Madalyar as the main alternatives in an interesting betting heat. The Peter Harris-trained selection looked unlucky in a competitive handicap at Kempton last month and duly recouped losses in a similar event at Newmarket's Guineas meeting. Those efforts were both over ten furlongs but the four-year-old showed he is just as effective over this longer trip when putting up a solid placed effort at Newbury last time. The son of Danehill remains relatively lightly raced and has scope for further improvement so should give another good account, particularly as he is able to race off the same mark. Azur has shown a consistent level of form this term and is at the right end of the handicap so has place claims once again while Marble Arch will appreciate the fast ground and has been dropped 4lb since his latest effort at York so enters calculations with Kieren Fallon on board. Madalyar is another dropping down the weights after a couple of lacklustre runs on the level this term but this ex-Irish performer has winning form on the ground and may be capable of better off his revised mark.
