These are not a great bunch, with Compton Fields selected ahead of Bateleur, with Madam Gaffer possibly best of the rest. The adage of selecting from the top two in the weights has proven successful time after time and Compton Fields has shown a solid level of form in each of his last three starts, including when winning. He has also been tried over this trip and his profile here looks strong enough. Bateleur's stable is going well and, despite the fact that he was a beaten favourite last time after winning the time before, he can go well switched to this level. At this time of year there is always the potential for horses to suddenly improve so, with that in mind, watch the betting carefully. Of the others, then, Anthea, who might appreciate the drop back to six furlongs today, Madam Gaffer, who debuts on the all-weather, and Gap Princess, who has knocked at the door on all starts to date, could be interesting but, for the selection, we will side with Compton Fields.
