Verdict

This doesn't look the strongest of maidens to start the day and those that have racecourse experience don't look to have achieved much between them. However, Sewmore Character has shown enough to suggest he can win a small race and he probably has the best form on offer. A half-brother to mile winner Kirtle he will appreciate this step up in trip. Red Scorpion hinted at a little ability last year, but he may do better when he goes handicapping, a remark that also applies to Island Saint, who has plenty of stamina on the dams side and should do better over middle-distances. Tour De Force must have shown connections something at home to warrant keeping him in training as a four-year-old, but he faces a difficult task to give the younger brigade plenty of weight. Paul Cole relies on Nominate from two entries. The Desert King gelding is out of a mare that won five races over sprint trips, so whether this trip will prove ideal remains to be seen, while Estimation achieved little when third on the Polytrack and has something to prove. A chance is taken with the well bred Banners Flying, who is out of a mare that won three races in France at up to nine-furlongs. He comes from a yard that has made a flying start to the new campaign and is taken to make a winning debut.
