Verdict

Vesperal Dream won this race last year off a 1lb lower mark and Paul Nicholls’ charge is likely to be popular. However, Chris Gordon doesn’t make a habit of sending his runners up this far so COWARDS CLOSE makes much more appeal at the likely odds. The nine-year-old hasn’t got too many miles on the clock and, with an aptitude for good ground shown in the past, he’s off a helpful enough mark at present. Mister First is 12lb higher than when he began his winning run but Robbie Hennessy’s raider attempts a quick hat-trick. Katgary is starting to look incredibly well handicapped on the pick of his old form while any market confidence behind Imjoeking on his reappearance should be noted.
