Verdict

Nae Bother At All is taken to outpoint the enigmatic Genghis and Golden Feather in an intriguing affair. The Scottish Champion Hurdle winner of 2005, Genghis, had had four unsuccessful attempts over fences before scoring at Hereford last time. He is still racing off a mark over two stone lower than his hurdling rating, but he does not appear the same force over the bigger obstacles, and the welter burden of 12 stone five that he carries here may prove a stopper. Golden Feather took successive races at Huntingdon and Musselburgh last year and went up the ratings as a result. He has hence failed to win any of his last ten races and makes his chasing bow here after two good efforts to hit the frame. Venetia Williams would not have despatched her charge on the long journey North unnecessarily, and he can go well. Nae Bother At All returns to action after a six month break, after disappointing on an easy surface at Sedgefield. It is perhaps significant that Nicky Richards sends him over fences so early in his career, and his earlier hurdling efforts had indicated good ability. He looks less exposed than his rivals, has shown that he can go well when fresh, and may have too much enthusiasm for his more experienced opponents. Nae Bother At All can lose his maiden tag and live up to his name.
