In depth

Verdict

Crackleando should prove too strong for Mon Mome in the first race on Sunday's card. A ready winner at Hereford on his second outing over hurdles, he should be able to utilise every yard of his flat ability to make light of this step up in trip. Mon Mome sets the benchmark for the contest with an official rating of 110. He has had his chances in the past to break a long-overdue maiden and invariably succumbs close home to anything with a finishing kick. Middleham Park has had five starts over hurdles and is now with Seamus Mullins. Given Haslam's ability with juvenile hurdlers, it is a little worrying that the best the Middleham maestro could do with him was two minor placings in a couple of very modest events indeed. Thyne Supreme was backed ahead of his first bumper for Alex Hales but was unsupported ahead of two subsequent starts. The Kirk has been a big disappointment since arriving here from New Zealand while former bumper winner, The Muratti makes his debut for a new trainer following the passing of the late Denis Caro. Crackleando has the most positives in his favour and duly secures the selection.
