In depth

Verdict

Billaway, who won this a year ago, was surprisingly beaten at Fairyhouse last time, not by the long odds-on Ferns Lock but by stablemate Annamix, who defied numerous mistakes to land the spoils. The winner is unpredictable and fell at Cheltenham before that but the runner-up had Vaucelet just over a length behind when successful a year ago. The latter was seventh at Cheltenham when Chris's Dream was fifth and ITS ON THE LINE second, the latter making up a huge amount of ground from the last. Emmet Mullins' charge has since fallen at Bechers in the Foxhunters but he's the youngest in the line-up and has the scope to make further progress.
