      Verdict

      DAME NELLIE MELBA has shown steady improvement this year and duly got off the mark at Leicester last month. She appeared to have plenty in hand that day so an extra 5lb here shouldn't be a problem. San Cassiano won over course and distance in June but has struggled off higher mark since. But Ruth Carr's charge is still preferred to Philip Kirby's pair, Next Edition and Triple Eight, while Braveheart Move is best watched following a lengthy absence. Amaze needs softer ground.
