      In depth

      Verdict

Sir Mark Prescott isn't known for tilting at windmills so the presence of Alpinista, the winner of three German Group 1 races last season, is intriguing. Mare Australis looks the best of the Fabre duo having won both starts over today's trip including when beating Bubble Gift in a Chantilly Group 2 last time. High Definition represents Aidan O'Brien, who would have had plenty of options for this, though he finished behind HURRICANE LANE three times last season. The Godolphin colt only had a neck to spare over Lone Eagle in last year's Irish Derby before landing the Grand Prix de Paris and the St Leger but looked in need of the run when beaten on fast ground in the Hardwicke Stakes. The latter was also an odds-on failure on his reappearance in Listed company at Goodwood and like the remainder will need to dig very deep to get involved against the principals.
