Verdict
The step up in trip will suit DYLANESQUE who is fancied to justify the market support that came in for her on debut; the losses can be got back at the main expense of the three newcomers Twilight Memory, Lost Horizon and Kithonia. The selection was well-held on her debut at Newbury over six furlongs but wasn't given a hard time when defeat was inevitable. She will have learnt plenty from that run and with improvement expected now tried over this longer trip, this half-sister to the classy Alessandro Volta can show marked improvement. That is also needed from Magnificence following an ignominious Newmarket debut; the soft ground there may have found her out however and likely to be a lot wiser today she should make a bolder impression on this better ground. There are some beautifully-bred newcomers, and whilst some may not blossom until next season, it would be no surprise to see a debutante prosper. Napoleons Mistress is related to juvenile winners and Paul Hanagan looks an interesting jockey booking, Twilight Memory made $300,000 as a foal and as a yearling and is a half-sister to top US sprinter Mr Pee Vee, whilst Lost Horizon represents a stable with a nap hand in juvenile races this season. There is plenty of stamina on the dam's side of Lady Willa's pedigree so it is no surprise to see a lack of Group entries this season, however there are several in the field who have loftier aspirations including Henry Cecil's Kithonia whose dam was a winner on debut and whose trainer doesn't tend to block entry his juveniles. Amanda Perrett knows the family of Atakora very well but everything screams 'three-year-old' as it does with Free Grain, so a bigger player on debut may be Lady Slippers who is a full-sister to a Coventry Stakes winner. Certainly a race to record and mull over, but a tentative selection is Dylanesque.
