    Verdict

AVE is preferred to Splashdown and Wadaat. The three year olds look to be significantly better than their elders and Sir Michael Stoute's charge gets the verdict. Second to High Heeled in a fair contest at York, a similar display will suffice here. Splashdown bombed out badly at Newmarket on her latest start but she had won a listed event in decent style at Newbury previously. Wadaat was predictably outclassed in the Oaks but it is worth noting that she had previously finished a nose away from taking the Italian version of the classic a couple of weeks earlier. Lady Deauville, Sweet Amber and Sweet Lily were first, second and third respectively in last year's contest. They would have been far better off were this race a handicap. The second mentioned is on a seasonal reappearance so a check of the market is advised after the layoff. The remainder appear to be there in hope rather than expectation. Ave can confirm the legitimacy of her York form today.
