Verdict
Father Abraham probably did not beat a great deal when winning at Lingfield last week and looks worth taking on under a 7lb penalty with preference for Melford over Manbow. The last mentioned has been in fine form recently winning races at Kelso and Wetherby (twice) in his last three starts but the handicapper has taken note and a combination of a further hike in the weights and a drop in trip may prevent Micky Hammond's gelding from completing a four timer. Top weight Bobosh will need to put up a career best performance to win off his current mark, while Sterling Dot Com has along absence to overcome. With Robert Alner's stable in such good from at present, Silver Inngot has to be respected but the five-year-old lacks experience of chasing and a safer option looks to be Melford. Admittedly Henrietta Knight's gelding would not have an obvious chance at first glance but he probably ran as well as could have been expected behind Willie John Daly first time up and looked to have a nice education on his second start over fences behind Big King at Newbury recently. With plenty more improvement to come, Melford is expected to show the benefit of those two outings and open his account over the larger obstacles.
