In depth

Verdict

The vote here goes to Back Nine, with others to consider being Kiwi Babe, Greenfield, Aldiruos and Bohemian Boy. The selection put in an improved effort to score over course and distance last time and a five-pound rise for that does not seem excessive, so he looks set to run a big race. While the handicapper does not seem to have taken any chances with Will Of The People, Kiwi Babe can be expected to go fairly well from her current mark. A return to his form of a year ago would give General Duroc a good chance although Richard Johnson has elected to ride Greenfield, who holds place claims, from the same yard. If applying literal Sandown and Newbury form using Kjetil, Aldiruos, Pretty Star and Bohemian Boy, then Aldiruos has the edge on Bohemian Boy. However, the latter seemed to be on the up at Newbury last time and, with his rating set to go up by four pounds, connections are attempting to take advantage of that fact by running again quickly. He should go well, as indeed should Aldiruos. Of the others, Golden Bay seems to be getting things together a bit better now and her stable has been among the winners lately, while Ballyalbany and Kelly are others that could have improvement in them. Oysterhaven's second to Go For Bust last time was let down on Wednesday but, given that that was an improved effort, he might be able to bag some money. However, for the selection, we are staying loyal to Back Nine.
