Verdict

Disappointingly, this has turned into a match in which Frosty Night gets a narrow call over Gold Option. Mark Johnston and John Gosden had seven entries between them for this at the five-day stage, so it will be fascinating to see which one of them has chosen right. Our narrow preference is for the northern raider who appeared to have improved enormously on his Sandown debut when scoring at Ayr last time. The son of Night Shift holds multiple Group entries, including next month's Royal Lodge at Ascot, and can cement his claims by beating his sole southern rival. Gold Option is also pencilled in at Ascot, and judged by the way that he stormed home at Newmarket, will relish the step up to a mile. In truth there should be little between these two promising colts, but we will side with Frosty Night.
