Verdict
Primary was just short of the mark in Group One company last term but sets a good standard here and is preferred over Baan and Private Business for betting purposes this afternoon. The last named looks the better of the two Barry Hills-trained runners and he looks one to bear in mind as the season goes on. Firm ground was perfect for him when he won at Chester last August and he looks the type to progress as the campaign develops. Baan fits the typical profile of a Mark Johnston-trained contender, in that his attitude has so far been unquestionable. He is sure to give a good account of himself and will be waiting in the wings to pounce if the selection fails to deliver. However, Primary was a touch unlucky when he was last in the Dewhurst, as he met a fair bit of trouble in running. His trainer, Willie Haggas, has started the season in good form and a bold bid is anticipated from this son of Giant's Causeway.
