In depth

Verdict

One of the leading fancies for this race, Interactif, has his work cut out from box 11 so preference is for POUNCED whilst Awesome Act and Codoy could go well at bigger prices. Todd Pletcher made the decision to switch his colt to turf after a disappointing performance on dirt on his second outing and he produced a top class display which prompted his jockey to describe him as a serious horse. He followed that with another commanding display over nine when again asked to come from off the pace but the drop in trip and high draw may both be against him. The trip is possibly on the short side for Codoy who chased Interactif home at Keeneland but he could go well at a price if he's able to hold a more prominent position from his low draw. Viscount Nelson is well drawn and this test should suit his style of running but he hasn't shown an instant turn of foot in any of his recent outings and he could be tapped for toe if this turns into a sprint from the turn. Awesome Act took four runs to open his account but the Goodwood form received a boost when Morana won a Group 3 next time and there were excuses for his run in the Dewhurst where he saw too much daylight and ran too freely as a result. Dettori's decision to partner Pounced rather than Buzzword looks significant and John Gosden knows exactly what type of horse is required to win this race and supplied last year's winner in Donativum. He was asked to make the running at Longchamp last time but may be better served by being tucked in behind the pace on this occasion as he was when winning his maiden. The form of his run in France gives him leading claims on the book and Pounced should go close.
