Verdict
Themanfromcarlisle made a winning debut over fences when landing what looked a useful beginners' chase at Plumpton last month and is taken to follow up in handicap-company at the main expense of Scotmail Lad and Pharbeitfrome. David Russell is back on the last mentioned for the first time since the partnership won at Southwell in July. He has to be respected but has seemed in the grip of the handicapper since that success. Topweight Scotmail Lad races over this trip for the first time since February 1999 and may lack the speed of one or two of his rivals. Enzo de Baune has an absence to overcome so a bigger threat may be Jokers Charm, who is only 1lb higher than when scoring at Uttoxeter last month. However, narrow preference is for Themanfromcarlisle. Unexposed as a hurdler, the son of Jupiter Island was good value for his success at Plumpton and looks worth a bet to follow up that success.
