In depth

Verdict

LORD KANALOA won this comfortably last year and though drawn much higher this time arrives in such brilliant form that it will take a monumental effort to beat him. He's now won eight of his dozen races, five at Group 1 level, and been placed in the other four. Lucky Nine was around 4l behind last year but was drawn badly and is much better berthed this time. Charles The Great, Sterling City, Eagle Regiment and Cerise Cherry fought out the finish of a local Group 2 here last month but the form doesn't equate to that of the selection. Eddie Lynam's pair Slade Power and Sole Power are always capable of a big run at the highest level but this could be too tough while shock Nunthorpe winner Jwala has the worst possible draw.
