Verdict
The trio for the shortlist in this handicap are POET'S PLACE, Charles Parnell and Gentle Guru with the vote given to Poet's Place. The selection won a maiden in good style on his racecourse debut over this course and distance and he looks to have been given a fair mark for his handicap bow. Charles Parnell is a seasoned handicapper who got back to winning ways last time out when he beat Onceuponatime over this course and distance last month. He has won off a higher mark than this in the past so a strong case can be made for him. Gentle Guru ran a fair race behind Harlech Castle and Onceuponatime when last seen out on her debut on this surface. However, on a strict form line through Onceuponatime she looks to have a bit to find with Charles Parnell. Came Back does have course and distance winning form but he has run appallingly on his last two starts and he looks one to swerve at present. Ponting won well last time but he has more on his plate off his revised mark. There should be plenty more to come from Poet's Place who can make a winning handicap debut.
