In depth

Verdict

Disappointingly just five runners line up for the opener on the card and, with Evan Williams having his string in better form now, Alexander Exchange is taken to overcome an absence from the track and take this at the main expense of Insurgent and Blast The Past. The last mentioned stayed on well to take a handicap hurdle at Sedgefield last month but is now switched to the larger obstacles and it is hard to know whether he can reproduce that form. Newbay Lady may do better now that she races on a faster surface so cannot be discounted completely, while Filey Flyer is hard to recommend on recent form. Insurgent is a consistent performer and is entitled to be thereabouts but Richard Guest's gelding may be a shade high in the weights so preference is for the Evan Williams-trained Alexander Exchange, who has suitable ground and looks worth chancing on his chasing debut.
