We'll take a LUCKY PUNT here that Brendan Powell's gelding can land the spoils in this lowly handicap to follow up his win here last month, but Shifting Gold and Mekong Miss also make the shortlist. Lucky Punt lost his maiden tag here last time out over 11 furlongs; the slight step up in trip shouldn't be a problem, although horses running at this level aren't always the most consistent. He's the only one though with decent recent form in the locker. Mekong Miss was top weight that day and came fourth after a decent run, and with an eight pounds swing in the weights in her favour, could be more of a threat. Shifting Gold hadn't run beyond a mile until his last two outings, the latter of which saw him placed. A previous winner here over a mile, we know he handles the surface. It's a typical trappy Southwell handicap, with marginal preference being for Lucky Punt.
