In depth
Verdict
David Barron has won this twice in the past four seasons and he has Ingleby Arch entered here but preference is for Whitbarrow, who can add to his three course and distance wins, while Westport is very much respected. Whitbarrow is back on the same mark as when winning over this trip at Wolverhampton in October and it looks safe enough to excuse his latest run and give him another chance back at a track he relishes. He gets the nod over Westport, who has a course win at a mile to his name, but is effective over sprint trips and continues to go well despite what for him is a stiffish mark. The handicapper may again just have his measure here. Diminuto has enjoyed three wins this calendar year, and although he can operate over 6f, the minimum trip looks to be his optimum. Even so, he has slipped to a handy mark again and could go very close. Recent winners Desperate Dan and Bel Cantor both need a drop in the weights again and Whitbarrow gets our vote here.
