In depth

Verdict

Several in-from performers contest this tricky handicap, and the tentative vote goes to Zed Candy ahead of Hilltop Destiny, Prince of Love and Cragganmore Creek. The selection comes here in search of his hat-trick after two gutsy performances here, and whilst he steps up another furlong today, the slight step up in trip is not expected to cause any problems. The main danger should come from Hilltop Destiny who improved markedly for the step up to today's trip when winning eight days ago at Wolverhampton. He can go well for his promising apprentice if he acts to the same degree on this slower surface, whilst Cragganmore Creek could also be a threat based on his course and distance win back in November, although that was a banded contest so the form must be taken with a pinch of salt. However, he demolished the field by seven lengths that day and although he disappointed slightly last time when stepped up in trip and grade, today's trip is more likely to suit and he must go on the shortlist. Prince Of Love has to be considered based on his seconds to Zed Candy, however he is not guaranteed to get this trip on breeding and can be passed over. For the winner then, we return to Zed Candy who can complete a quickfire hat-trick.
