In depth

The penalised Pocket The Packet has been mopping-up Class 6 races including at Lingfield last week but this is a stiffer test and ELEGANT CHARM (NAP) is preferred. The Godolphin filly appeared to win with more in hand at Kempton than the length winning margin would suggest and Charlie Appleby’s charge looks worth sticking with. Cariad Angel took a step forward when finishing runner-up in a maiden race over track and trip last month and there should be more to come now handicapping while Beach Buoy is another handicap debutant to consider.

Havana By The Sea (IRE) 10-1 (9-8) Last to break, in rear, switched right inside final furlong, kept on, never dangerous, 5th of 8, 4 1/2l behind Shaquille (9-13) at Wolverhampton 6f stks (2) pol in Dec.

Elegant Charm (IRE) 9-2 (9-4) Led 1f, tracked leader, ridden to lead again approaching final furlong, ran on, won at Kempton 6f (4) pol in Nov beating Tenjin (9-7) by 1l, 10 ran.

Democracy Dilemma (IRE) 8-1 (9-7) Towards rear, ridden over 1f out, no impression, 6th of 8, 3 1/2l behind Michaela's Boy (9-10) at Chelmsford City 5f (4) pol in Dec.

Rocking Ends 14-1 (9-3) With winner until over 2f out, edged right over 1f out, no impression on winner final furlong, 2nd of 8, 2 1/4l behind Michaela's Boy (9-10) at Chelmsford City 5f (4) pol in Dec.

Glorious Angel (IRE) 12-1 (9-4) Led, edged left and ridden over 1f out, headed inside final furlong, stayed on same pace, no extra and lost 2nd final stride, 3rd of 5, 2 3/4l behind Brave Emperor (9-9) at Wolverhampton 7f (4) pol in Nov.

Beach Buoy (IRE) 11-4fav (9-11) Led, driven and headed over 1f out, weakened inside final furlong, 7th of 11, 8l behind Maharajas Express (9-2) at Kempton 6f stks (5) pol in Nov.

Cariad Angel (IRE) 25-1 (9-2) Prominent, pushed into lead after 2f out, ridden before final furlong, headed late on and no match for winner, 2nd of 11, 1 3/4l behind Nine Tenths (9-2) at Newcastle 6f mdn fll stks (5) pol in Nov.
