Verdict

A tight affair to start off proceedings and FUZZY CAT is the call with Verinco and Fulford likely to give him most to think about. David Barron always has to be respected at Southwell and having gone close last month with this horse, it was a little mean of the handicapper to put him up 2lb for his troubles. That said, he is proven on the surface and with a trip that suits, there are plenty of positives in his favour. Verinco represents a yard that has carried all before them in recent weeks. He was beaten in an above average seller by the track's standards though has been given a drop by the assessor. Fulford is typical of the sort of horse that Mel Brittain excels with. He has earned himself an 8lb rise for trouncing a desperate field over course-and-distance. Bertbrand has dropped to a realistic mark and while far from a prolific winner, he is worth more than just a cursory glance. Cheery Cat has proved a disappointment for current connections while Robert Winston is always worthy of respect in sprint races around here and he teams up with the ultra-consistent, Angle Of Attack. Paul Midgeley was among the winners the other day so Handsinthemist, who is without the headgear he wore last time, could have each-way claims at longer odds. Fuzzy Cat is fancied to take the opener.
