Verdict

A compressed handicap here where the suggestion is FIRST SWALLOW to get the better of Thunder Bay and Silk Gallery. The David Brown-trained selection has been in decent form just lately, finishing runner-up at Ayr last month off a mark of 53, and then beaten just a length on soft ground off 1lb higher earlier in the month. From the same mark he looks to have plenty going for him on this, his debut on the surface, and given that he likes to get his toe in on turf there is a good chance he will act on it. Thunder Bay has been dropped 1lb since his latest effort at Wolverhampton, but had previously gone well both there and at Kempton in claimers. This trip does not look ideal for him, however, so we will oppose. Silk Gallery is a proven soft ground turf performer who has run well here in defeat in the past. He is 3lbs lower than when well beaten here last time and is likely to be more competitive as a result. Kinigi is in decent form and can't be ruled out now 2lb lower than the mark she won from over 7f here last year, though whether she has the pace for this is doubtful. Shakespeare's Son is also on a decent mark if retaining his ability of 2008, but we will side with First Swallow today.
