Verdict
DICKIE LE DAVOIR gets the tentative vote to land this handicap from Whatyouwoodwishfor and Cheery Cat. Richard Guest has his string in decent order and this stalwart advertised that fact when second last time. That effort over five furlongs behind an improving sort suggested a return to the winners' enclosure may not be far away for the six-year-old, and with the step up to six furlongs certain to suit perhaps today may be the day. Whatyouwouldwishfor ran his best race for some time when second over course and distance two starts ago. Dropped five pounds since and with the assistance of Paul Hanagan in the saddle, this relatively unexposed sort can go well from a decent draw, as can Cheery Cat. The last-named took second here last time and, whilst he hasn't won at the course, that effort alone suggests the surface is no problem and a solitary pound higher mark seems fair. Fuzzy Cat is lightly-raced and goes well here so must be respected for David Barron, although his last win came off 50 so this demands more. Brazilian Brush returns to the scene of his demolition job back at the start of the month off a 9lb higher mark, but he's disappointed since and looks best watched, as does Kinigi who has winning form here but hasn't looked like adding to it of late. Hard Ball would be interesting were this race over seven furlongs or even a mile, but the drop back to sprinting is a concern. Dualagi has gone well here in the past but has an absence to overcome so is opposable, veteran Tango Step looks a shade high the weights and Mister Beano has been off for over two years and would need strong market support before becoming of interest. In a race where stakes are best kept to a minimum, our token choice is Dickie Le Davoir.
