In depth
Verdict
Kim Bailey's Double Mead has come back well in two starts this term after an absence of more than a year and she has to be respected on ground that suits but she may be shade high in the weights at present and a better bet looks to be AMERICAN WORLD, who gets the vote with Haar looking the pick of the remainder. The selection was a good winner on good ground at Plumpton in November and has run well on unsuitably testing ground in three starts since then, latterly when chasing home the in-form Bradford Boris at Leicester earlier this month, and Brendan Powell's gelding can resume winning ways back on more suitable ground today. Vic Dartnell has his string in good form now so The Apprentice cannot be ruled out but he does need to improve on recent form to trouble the judge, while The Jolly Spoofer ran much better on heavy ground at Lingfield last time and will not mind the faster ground today so he has to be considered racing off the same mark as at Lingfield. Charlie Longsdon's Young Albert has yet to confirm that he stays this far and of more interest may be Andrew Turnell's Haar, who has to give weight away all round and has disappointed of late but is better than he has shown in those runs. American World is running well though, has ground conditions to suit and he looks the one they all have to beat.
