In depth

Poker School stayed on strongly to score at Kempton last month on the same day that Old Pride was finishing third at Warwick, almost six lengths ahead of Cut The Corner. Both have decent claims in this but DESERT RECLUSE should take all the beating if reproducing the form of his latest second to Gassin Golf at Newbury in a hotter contest than this - James Davies' mount can race off the same mark. The four-year-olds Guard Of Honour and New Tarabela have shown some promise but may need more time.

Old Pride (IRE) 4-1 (11-11) Went to post early, led into start, took keen hold, led 2nd, ridden and headed before 2 out, one pace, 3rd of 7, 7l behind Rathealy (11-12) at Warwick 2m (3) sft in Mar.

Poker School (IRE) 2-1fav (11-9) Made all, hard driven approaching 2 out, stayed on strongly closing stages, won at Kempton 2m hcp hdl 0-120 (4) gd in Mar beating Kuda Huraa (11-10) by 1 1/2l, 7 ran.

Desert Recluse (IRE) 16-1 (10-6) Tracked leading pair, 2nd before 3 out until 2 out, chased leaders, driven and kept on run-in, went 3rd towards finish and pressing for 2nd but no chance with winner, 3rd of 12, 5l behind Gassin Golf (11-8) at Newbury 2m hcp hdl 0-145 (2) gs in Mar.

Guard Of Honour (IRE) 11-1 (10-12) Not fluent, led and soon 5 length clear, ridden and headed approaching 2 out, kept on same pace, 3rd of 6, 11l behind Chatez (10-12) at Bangor 2m 1f 3yo mdn hdl (4) sft in Nov.

New Tarabela 33-1 (10-4) Held up, never dangerous, 12th of 15, 40l behind Astre De La Cour (11-12) at Stratford 2m hcp hdl 0-125 (3) gs in Mar.

Smirfy's Silver 150-1 (10-12) Behind, mistake 1st, headway after 4 out, ridden to chase leaders after next, weakened 2 out, 8th of 9, 33l behind Lanceur (11-1) at Huntingdon 2m mdn hdl (4) sft in Mar.

Cut The Corner (IRE) 11-2 (11-1) Tracked leaders, took keen hold, ridden and lost place after 3 out, 6th of 7, 12l behind Rathealy (11-12) at Warwick 2m (3) sft in Mar.
