Verdict

An interesting handicap where Cornus will be short listed along with Sam's Secret and Hustle, but preference is for RUNSWICK BAY. George Moore is more than capable of having one ready to go after a lengthy lay off and Runswick Bay fits the bill. The Intikhab gelding looked likely to be a decent handicapper for some time when scoring over 6f at Pontefract a couple of years ago, but he went lame at Ripon last year and has not been seen now for just over 12 months. He acts on any ground, does not have a bad draw here, and is back on a very handy mark over a trip that looks ideal, so we'll suggest him. Sam's Secret won five out of six back in 2007, and was runner-up on three successive occasions last summer, when racing over a mile. There is no reason why he can't be effective over this shorter trip, though a 4lb rise makes things tougher. Cornus was a 6f winner here last time on fast ground, despite meeting traffic problems en route. He is bred to get at least this far and a 5lbs rise won't stop him being a leading player. Trip and ground will suit Horatio Carter, whose last run we can put a line through, and with the stable firing he can get involved in the shake-up. He is much respected, but we'll take a chance on Runswick Bay.
