In depth
Verdict
A poor contest filled with mainly disappointing types and stakes are advised to be kept low with Doctor Spin the tentative suggestion ahead of Its Ecco Boy and Lion's Domane. The selection was a smart performer at his best and landed a Newmarket handicap off a mark of 98 in 2000 before contesting Pattern events the following year. Now a seven-year-old, he clearly has had his problems since and is not the force of old but showed signs of retaining some ability on his recent comeback in slightly better grade at Newcastle, showing bright speed until fading inside the final furlong. The David Nicholls-trained gelding has plenty in hand on official ratings and should prove hard to beat at this level. Its Ecco Boy ran a fair race to be placed in a competitive claimer last time but remains a maiden and has something to find on these terms while Lion's Domane is a course and distance winner who ran well in a Catterick seller last month but flopped badly next time.
